FAQs
What is the Davis Tennis Club?
The Davis Tennis Club (DTC) is a community-based, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the game of tennis in the City of Davis. As a volunteer-run organization, we provide opportunities for players of all levels to engage in the sport and support the tennis community.
Where is the Davis Tennis Club located?
The DTC does not operate out of a traditional brick-and-mortar clubhouse. Instead, our members and the public have access to several public courts throughout the city, including those at the Davis Senior High School (DSHS) through a shared-use agreement with the Davis Joint Unified School District (DJUSD), as well as courts at the University of California, Davis (UCD). The DTC has a small clubhouse at the DSHS courts, which is used for social events and league activities.
Why should I join the Davis Tennis Club?
Joining the DTC offers a variety of benefits, including opportunities to meet new players, take lessons, participate in drop-in sessions, and attend social events. As a member, you’ll also gain access to multiple courts around the city. The DTC plays a vital role in advocating for the maintenance and accessibility of tennis courts in Davis, ensuring a balance between tennis and pickleball facilities. Additionally, our unique agreement with the DJUSD grants access to the 14th Street courts for USTA and SATA league play. Your membership dues support these initiatives and help fund our community outreach programs.
How much does it cost to join?
Individual memberships to the DTC are $40 per year. We also offer an associate membership for members of the Woodland Tennis Club at a rate of $20 per year. Membership runs on a calendar-year basis and is not prorated.
Can’t I just join a private tennis club?
Currently, the only private tennis club in Davis is the Stonegate Country Club, which is exclusive to residents of the Stonegate community. There are no other private tennis clubs available to the public in Davis.
What sort of tennis programming does the City Parks and Community Services offer?
While the City of Davis maintains several tennis courts, it has not offered tennis programming since 2014. The DTC fills this gap by offering organized activities and lessons for players of all ages and skill levels.
What if I want to take a lesson?
Under the DTC umbrella, two USPTA-certified teaching professionals offer private and group lessons, as well as youth programming, at the 14th Street courts.
How can I meet more players?
The DTC offers several opportunities to meet fellow players. Our private Facebook group connects members with one another, and we organize regular drop-in sessions and social events. Additionally, DTC leadership and coaches can introduce you to players of similar skill levels. Members are notified of social events and mixers throughout the year.
